What is Head Shape Matters?

Hey there! So, since 2015, I've been teaching with Head Shape Matters, and let me tell you, I really love this haircutting system. But here's the thing—I often find it tough to explain because words like "math" and "science" can make some stylists a bit nervous. My goal is to explain what Head Shape Matters is so that no one feels overwhelmed.

Let me give you a little background: Head Shape Matters was started by Kim Weaver Moore back in 2008. She noticed that using the same haircut shape on different clients led to different results, even when following the same steps. The reason? The shape of the head plays a huge role in how a haircut turns out. After years of research, she figured out how hair behaves based on head shape, specific lengths, and cutting angles, which is how Head Shape Matters was born.

So, what’s Head Shape Matters all about? It's a precision haircutting system that teaches stylists to cut according to the head shape, using specific angles and measurements. This means you can plan your haircut ahead of time based on what you learn during your consultation. The techniques we teach will help you create stronger, longer-lasting haircut resullts. We want to help stylists break down haircut shapes and understand what tweaks can be made to get the look you’re aiming for. Just a heads-up, though—we’ll dive into a bit of math and geometry because we believe knowing your angles is super important for hairstylists. We'll revisit some high school math to explain the protractor and show how mastering angles can really boost your haircutting skills and come up with the ideal haircut blueprint.

I hope this chat has given you a better idea of what HSM is and why I’m so passionate about it. If you’re curious to learn more, keep an eye out for some educational opportunities coming up. I offer various ways to learn at different levels, so you can find the perfect fit for your learning style.
